Web Tools - You can’t use them all

These days artists are flooded with online tools that promise better management, promotion, distribution, and touring…some may do it all!

The real challenge is deciding what tools are best to use and taking the time to define what you want them to accomplish for your band.  Signing up for new web tools just because they’re the latest thing out there is a bad decision.  You should ask yourself, why would I use this?  What purpose do I want it to serve? What’s my return? (i.e. sales, new fans, promotion).

I play in the band Larcenist and we just recently sat down to take inventory of the web tools we are currently using.  It was mind blowing how many accounts we have and how many were serving the same purpose.  Many of them we forgot we had, which led to outdated and stagnant information.  We quickly decided we only have time to manage a certain number of accounts, and so we asked ourselves which ones make the most sense to truly manage and be proactive with.   Be clear on what your goal is as a band, then adopt the tools (which could just be a few) needed to achieve your vision.

I’ll keep you posted as Larcenist continues along this process.  Wish us luck!

Cheers,
Brandon

Jonathan Tompkins just put his sexy voice all over the Burning Oak record.

This is Larcenist’s last show with Jeff Rowe.  Come out and give him the send off he deserves.

Burning Oak w/ Michele Doxtater

First off, I totally forgot I had this song laying around.  It put a huge smile on my face after seeing it come up in my itunes, so I figured I’d share it.

Michele (my OLDER sister) was hanging in Boston with me last year, and one day we were sitting around my living playing music.  I had these old lyrics floating around and new I wanted to turn them in to a blues song.  I handed them over to my much more vocally talented sister and ten minutes later we have “lucy” recorded.  Live in my living room, take a listen!

Promote your band via gift bags

Great opportunity for Boston area bands to promote themselves through “One Night Band” gift bags

Launched in 2009, One Night Band is a day-long music experiment in which 40 selected Boston musicians are randomly shuffled into bands of five on a Saturday morning.  Find out more here.

Friends, we have an update to share

After a year and half we are losing a band-mate, but definitely not a friend!  Jeff Rowe will no longer be playing with Larcenist after our July 22, 2010 show at O’brien’s.  Jeff’s solo career is taking off quite nicely, and for that reason, he no longer has the bandwidth to continue playing with the band.  We’ve played a ton of shows, did some traveling and recorded a record together, all while having an absolute blast.  We are all still very much friends and are excited to continue to support each others musical endeavors.  We are all thankful for the time we’ve had together on-stage and in our dingy practice space.  Thank you all for the support and we hope you will continue to follow both Jeff Rowe and Larcenist in its next iteration.

Jeff’s record “Barstool Conversations” will be coming out on August 24, 2010 in both the States and Europe.  Keep your ears to the ground and make sure to pick it up.  www.myspace.com/jeffrowemusic

Larcenist will continue to write and perform as a four piece, so stay tuned!

Please make sure to come out to the last two shows we are all playing together.  I promise they will be a hellava time!!  Details - www.myspace.com/larcenistmusic

Thanks again to all of you for making the last few years absolutely amazing.

Love,
The Boys of Larcenist

Larcenist will be playing with Have Gun, Will Travel (Fl), Banditas, and Girl Haggard on Tuesday, May25th at O’brien’s Pub in Allston, MA.

This show is one of Josh Allain’s Two Plus Two nights.  Josh’s goal with this is to bring together two local and two out of state bands together.
